How close are you to Downtown Galax?

We are located around a half mile from Main Street, about a mile to the historic Rex Theatre, just over a mile from Felts Park, and about 15 – 20 minutes from the Parkway and Blue Ridge Music Center. Despite this, we are on a road with no outlet and isolated in such a way that it does not seem like we are in town at all! The best way to walk/cycle to downtown is by taking the New River Trail to the left, toward the Galax trailhead, then crossing US 58/221 at the crosswalk at the top of the hill by the Main Street stoplight.
Can you fish in Chestnut Creek?

Absolutely! Chestnut Creek is a trout-stocked stream, but there are plenty of smallmouth, bluegill, and other species of fish to land. You will need a valid Virginia freshwater fishing license any time of the year and additionally a trout license October 1st – June 15th. These can be purchased directly from the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website, www.gooutdoorsvirginia.com, or at the sporting goods section of the local Wal-Mart. Temporary licenses are available for both residents and non-residents of Virginia. If you plan to do a lot of fishing during your stay, kayak/canoe fishing is very popular on the New River and there are several boat landings within a 20- or 30-minute drive from the cabins. Visit https://dwr.virginia.gov/waterbody/new-river/#maps for more information about where to put in and what fishing to expect through different sections of the New River.
Do you allow pets?

Currently no, unfortunately. Service animals are, of course, the exception. Please contact the office to let us know that you will be bringing a service animal ahead of time so that we are aware that it is not a pet. You will be responsible for keeping the service animal under control so that it does not bother other guests and for gathering all animal waste from the yard. Any damage caused to a cabin by a service animal will result in applicable fees. Emotional Support Animals, or ESAs, are not designated as a service animal and therefore are also not allowed at this time. We are working, however, towards rolling out a pet policy that will be covered by our insurance. We will update this page and send out an email to all on our mailing list when that has been created. Opt-in to emails if you would like to be on our list.
Are you affiliated with the New River Trail State Park? Can you access the trail from the cabins?

We are not affiliated with the State Park and are a private enterprise. The cabins were however built bordering the NRT State Park and it is directly accessible from all 11 of our cabins, with the furthest cabin being about 1/10th of a mile from the access. Please note that there will be bridge renovations occurring in different locations on the trail throughout the remainder of 2023 and into 2024, visit the New River Trail State Park website in order to see if there are any trail closures during this time.
Why isn’t the fireplace working?

All fireplaces are disabled during the warm months, generally starting around the beginning of May, and re-enabled around Halloween depending on the weather. Please let us know immediately if it doesn’t work during the cold months, though.
Are you open all year? When is the best time to visit?

We are open all year! While obviously the warmer months lend themselves to more outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and playing in/on the water, our cabins are super cozy for a lovely winter getaway. The cabins are also very beautiful in the snow! In the spring, expect to be dazzled by emerging wildflowers and in the fall you’ll not want to miss the breathtaking colors of the changing foliage. So, in short – any time of the year is a great time to stay at the cabins!
I’d like to use your gas grill, but where is the tank underneath?

Our grills are all connected to our underground propane system so there is no need for one. In order to turn the gas on, turn the valve (near the floor of the deck below grill) 90 degrees so that it is parallel with the gas line. Please turn it back perpendicularly to the line in order to shut it off when you are finished grilling.
Do you allow last-minute cancellations due to weather?

No, we do not. In the event of severe or winter weather that would make travel dangerous, we would help you reschedule to another date down the road. However we would not allow any changes to a reservation due to rain or storms, cold or hot temperatures etc. We are in the mountains and our weather can vary widely (and wildly!) from season to season, so please account for that when you make your reservations and have back-up plans in case the weather gets in the way of outdoor activities.
What is your cancellation policy?

Last minute cancellations due to medical emergencies and pre-existing conditions (for you or immediate family) are covered by Travel Protection which is offered as you are checking out online. The cost is 10% of the reservation to add this, but if one of the covered situations were to occur, Travel Protection would refund the total cost of the reservation minus the 10% fee. Please visit their site here to read the full terms and conditions on what is covered and how to go about making a claim. If it is 30+ days until your reservation, we could postpone it until another date. Otherwise, if we completely cancel your stay 30+ days before check-in, there will be a $100 cancellation fee and any Travel Protection fees will not be reimbursed. Cancellations within 30 days of the reservation date (or reservations that occur on holidays or local special events) that are not covered by Travel Protection may be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the cancellation fee will be $150 or 50% of the reservation cost, whichever is greater, and again Travel Protection fees would not be reimbursed. You may also be asked to provide documentation or evidence of the reason you are cancelling before any refund is processed. Rescheduling a reservation within 30 days of check-in may also be considered but a convenience fee of $50 - $100 may be collected. Please note that we offer NO guarantee that we will allow a cancellation or a rescheduling within 30 days of your check-in date beyond what is explicitly covered by Travel Protection and is entirely at our discretion. We will not cancel due to rain or other weather events unless travel to/from the cabins is expected to be extremely perilous (see above answer to ‘do you allow cancellations due to weather'). We will not allow cancellations due to work conflicts, New River Trail State Park repairs or closures, schedule conflicts, or local event cancellations.
Are there additional fees that will be snuck in when checking out?

No, we prefer to give you the upfront cost with cleaning fees already included. However, Travel Protection will be automatically selected (please see the section about cancellation policy above) and you will need to remove it from your cart before checking out if you do not wish to add it. We cannot refund "Travel Protection" fees, even if it was added mistakenly.
Do I need to bring sheets or linens?

We provide all the linens, including sheets, and enough towels etc. for the length of your stay. If you wish to use your own linens, just let us know when you make your reservation and we will leave the bed unmade for you. If you ever need fresh linens during your stay, please contact the office and we will be happy to exchange your dirty linens for clean ones.
Do you have discounts available?

We do offer several discounts for different groups, such as return guests, First Responders, military, etc. Always visit our "Specials" page first to see what special offers are available to you before making your reservation! Please also double-check your total BEFORE booking your reservation to be sure that any special you’d like to take advantage of has been properly applied. We will not issue refunds for discounts that you found after making your reservation or discounts you intended to add to your reservation. Please note that only one discount can be applied per reservation, but you can add a discount or special and use a gift certificate for payment.
Do you allow smoking in any cabins?

All cabins are smoke-free, and if smoking is detected inside the cabin you will be charged at least $400 in cleaning fees. Even though cannabis is now recreationally legal in VA for adults over 21, cannabis smoking inside the cabin will also carry a minimum $400 cleaning fee. Smoking on the back porches is acceptable as long as doors and windows are closed and other guests are not being bothered by it -- please be respectful. Please note that cigarette butts found on the ground around the cabin will result in additional cleaning fees so be sure to properly dispose of them.
Where is the ice machine?

The ice machine is located at the rear of the office, and each cabin will have a key hanging by the front door that will open the padlock on the machine. A small bucket will also be hanging with the key and we kindly ask for a $3 donation per bag of ice that you can leave inside the bucket. 100% of the donations we receive will be given to the Twin County Humane Society.
Do you have wi-fi and cable?

Yes we do, connect to the "NRTC" network which does not require a password. Our TV service is DirecTV and our TV’s are either smart TV’s or have a smart add-on such as Roku so you may use your favorite streaming services like Netflix or Hulu. TV’s will be turned on when you arrive to a music channel on the DirecTV network, browse the guide using the DirecTV remote to find other live programming.
